 Welcome

Frieda van de Poll is a visual artist involved in painting, drawing, sculpture and graphics.

Frieda received her training in Amsterdam, her home town. Frieda mixes her own paints and makes objects in an unusual combination of ceramics and knitting. She participates in Dimensions, a group of women ceramists, and is a full member of Coventry Artspace, where she collaborates in various outreach projects. Her main focus here is working with Junk, a fun, creative and friendly way of making art!

In the past years Van de Poll has been exhibiting in the Netherlands (Haarlem, Amsterdam) and in the UK (London, Oxford, Nuneaton, Coventry). She has been commissioned artwork in several countries, for private houses and individuals (notably interpretations of Chinese Year Signs), as well as for events, such as weddings, where she works with the guests to create works of art. Her artwork is included in private collections all over the world, for example Venezuela, Barquisimeto; USA, San Francisco and the UK, London.

In addition to her creative work, Frieda teaches fine art classes for groups and individuals at Coventry Artspace and offers outreach workshops through JunkArt for a wide variety of communities.

Yarns of Love and Hate

Shiam Wilcox and Frieda van de Poll are joining forces again in their new exhibition Yarns of Love and Hate, during the month of May in Gallery Fishbone, 16 Hurst Lane, Longford, Coventry.
Preview 1 April, 6 - 8 pm, ALL WELCOME!!!
Shiam shall be residing in upper gallery with ‘lost gods in hidden spaces’, whilst Frieda takes the nether regions of the gallery to demonstrate the monstrous tales of human suffering in ‘I’m only human’.

Keep informed about the show on our blog: Yarns of love and hate

The story that unfolds in ‘I’m only human’ is a personal one. It's an ordinary one that so many of us have experienced, sweet love turned sour. It is about how our demons manage to kill off the best things in life; how we willy-nilly manage to destroy our fortunes, and how flippant we are with our happiness. Yes! Just throw it away! Revel in seeing your enemy cringe. Value power over forgiveness; force over understanding; revenge over dreams. To top it all off, have this excellent excuse ready: after all, you’re only human...

Shiam’s gods are all to be found around the home, everybody’s home! We may not generally be able to see them but sometimes we can sense their presence. They help and hinder us in sometimes small ways and often in huge practical ways. How come we haven't ever got mountains of crumbs in our cupboards? That's because the cupboard spuggies greedily Hoover it all up.
These gods were once venerated but now are largely forgotten that's why they are the lost gods in hidden places.
